Dear Llanddewi Brefi Community Council,
I am writing to inform you of the proposed tree planting scheme at Brynglas which is situated at the eastern end of the Llanddewi Brefi district area. Please find attached the proposed planting design map. I welcome any comments that you may have regarding the scheme.
The area highlighted on the attached map has been selected as an area to be planted under the Glastir Woodland Creation scheme. The Glastir Woodland Creation scheme aims to maintain and enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, sequester carbon, and combat climate change through targeted tree planting in Wales. This site has been selected for planting from a large volume of applications, as it has been recognised that tree planting in this area could have significant environmental benefits. It is in our interest to create a woodland that can bring wider benefits to the environment, community and beyond.
The proposed woodland is located within the uplands of the Cambrian Mountains and borders onto existing woodland which forms part of the wider Towy Forest Complex.
The intention is for the site to be planted with a mixture of conifer and native broadleaved tree species. Species will include Birch, Beech, Rowan, Crabapple, Sitka Spruce, Norway Spruce and Lodgepole Pine. Careful consideration to landscape design, environmental protection and preservation of historic features will be undertaken in the planning and consultation stage of the planting scheme. The large area of open ground at the south-west of the site is designated as deep peat and will be left unplanted. Other areas of open ground include the buffering of watercourses. The mixed broadleaves are designed to reduce landscape visual impact and encompass the watercourse buffers for their protection.
The scheme will provide significant income for our local workforce in Ceredigion for several years to come. The subsequent ground preparation works, planting and crop maintenance over the next 4 years will provide income for the local workforce in the area as well as those looking to find a way into the industry.
