Cynnal Llanddewi Brefi

The Cynnal Llanddewi Brefi project, supported by Cynnal y Cardi through the LEADER Grant Fund, aims at regenerating community activity.

As Sole trustee for the Village Hall Charity, Llanddewi Brefi Community Council held meetings with Hall users to try and identify solutions to the challenges they faced following disruption and restrictions during the COVID pandemic, and explore ways to support a return to group activities.

Representatives from 10 local groups took part in initial discussions, and access to digital technology and enabling remote participation emerged as key common factors. The Community Centre has underused space and equipment, and a pilot scheme to provide an informal youth social space was proposed, to attract new users and re-engage young people.

An interactive whiteboard display system, together with video conferencing camera/ microphone/ speaker system will provide a standalone touchscreen computing/ hybrid meeting facility, and will allow users to connect their own devices to share and access content.

Each association involved in Cynnal Llanddewi Brefi will support the project through their own in-kind and volunteer contributions. This volunteer input to training will foster networking between groups to share knowledge and innovative practice regarding use of the new digital facilities.

The LEADER principles and local strategic priorities provided the ideal framework for the project, enabling an innovative and community-led collaborative response to local challenges.
