Bethesda Chapel 25/09/16

Members of Bethesda Chapel at Cors Caron
On Sunday, September 25, members of Bethesda Chapel walked Cors Caron’s boardwalk with other members of the Caron Pastorate to raise money for the charity ŒTearfund¹ (ŒTearfund is a Christian agency working globally to end poverty and injustice, and to restore dignity and hope in some of the world’s poorest communities¹). Thanks to all who took part and also the sponsors for their generosity.

HRH The Prince of Wales’ visit to Llanddewi Brefi

HRH The Prince of Wales visited Llanddewi Brefi in July during his annual summer tour of Wales. The visit began with a service in St David’s Church where he heard a recital by pupils from the Llanddewi Brefi Campus of Ysgol Henry Richard. After calling into Siop Brefi, he was welcomed at The New Inn by the landlady, Yvonne Edwards.

  • HRH The Prince of Wales greeting Landlady of The New Inn and Chairman of The Pub is the Hub
As the founder of Pub is the Hub, an organisation that provides support to rural pubs seeking to widen their range of services to provide a focus for community life, the Prince was invited to meet representatives of the local groups that make use of the facilities offered by The New Inn.

  • HRH The Prince of Wales behind the bar at The New Inn, Llanddewi Brefi
After pulling himself a pint of ale at the bar, the Prince met with staff, family and friends of the landlady, the Chairman of the Community Council and local member of the County Council before spending an hour talking with members of Pub is the Hub, Gogerddan Hunt, the local shearing gang, who use the pub’s 3G signal network to overcome the lack of mobile coverage, Llanddewi Brefi & District Clay Pigeon Club, Fforest and Llanio Shooting Syndicate, Darts team, local football team Dewi Stars, Clwb Ffrindiau, Mid Wales Art Group and local producers, Hafod Cheese and Alison Williams Jams & Chutneys as well as organisers of the annual road running race, Ras Gŵyl Dewi.

  • HRH The Prince of Wales meeting members of Llanddewi Brefi WI
He was then invited to place the final stitch to complete an embroidered tablecloth depicting the village by Llanddewi Brefi WI, and heard how the new projection and internet facilities had enabled them to watch the NFWI’s Centenary Annual Meeting, broadcast live from the Albert Hall last June. Pub is the Hub helped to complete a project last year to expand facilities in the new meeting and function room at the New Inn, which included the digital projector and sound system and was also partly funded by Ceredigion County Council’s Micro Business Investment Fund.

  • HRH The Prince of Wales competing with members of Llanddewi Brefi Young Farmers Club in a Cockerel race in the marquee at The New Inn
The Prince concluded his visit by competing with members of the Llanddewi Brefi Young Farmers Club in a ‘cockerel’ race in the marquee and was cheered as he left by children from the village school.

A photo album of the visit can be seen in The New Inn, with copies available to order.
